Tom
Henry Racing Announces a Special Edition
The Tom Henry
Racing Camaro is a special-edition of the
fifth-generation of Chevrolet's iconic sports coupe.
This customized, performance-enhanced version of the
2011 Camaro is built and sold exclusively by Tom Henry
Racing, the high-performance, upfitter subsidiary of Tom
Henry Chevrolet. The distinctive THR Camaro or "THRC"
builds on the reputation established by Tom Henry Racing
when it sold the unique "Tom Henry SS" Camaros in 2001
and 2002.

"We've
always been partial to Camaro," Tom Henry said during an
announcement in the Spring of 2009 at his dealership, in
Bakerstown, 15 miles north of Pittsburgh. "Our special
Camaros have always been more narrowly-focused products
for hard core enthusiasts. We want the look and feel of
a road racing car. Our appearance upgrades and
performance modifications are intended to give our
customers that road race ambience.
"Unlike the
SSes we did near the end of fourth-gen production, the
new, Tom Henry Racing Camaro program allows our
customers many more choices in appearance and
performance enhancements such that they can create just
the THR Camaro they want."
THR's
Camaro experts start with either the V6 LT or the V8 SS.
You can have a Tom Henry Racing Camaro in any factory
color. The car shown on this page is Summit White. A "THRC"
owner gets a choice of one several visual enhancements
for the car's exterior: twin rally stripes in any color,
inspired by the popular look of the first generation
Camaros; the "Hockey Stick" stripe package popular on
the '69 models; right front fender "hash marks" which
carry on the visual tradition of the 1996 and 2010
Corvette Grand Sports and the 2007 Ron Fellows edition
Corvette Z06es; a traditional center stripe on the hood
and deck or two side stripes along the doors and rear
quarters, a popular graphic on
Camaros of the '60s. Tom Henry Racing Camaro stripe
packages are not tape, film or stickers. They are
painted on and can be just about any color a THR Camaro
customer wants. Our body shop custom-mixes all paint
used for striping. The stripes are applied by Tom Henry
Racing's bodywork craftsmen in our own paint facility. All stripe packages are pictured on
the
THRC
option page.

Giving Dodge Challenger
and Ford Mustang drivers a visual cue to remember after
a THR Camaro passes, the space between the tail lights
can be fitted with one of two "tail panels." A
body-color "duck tail" spoiler, similar to the one used
on the "Dale Earnhardt Jr. Camaro" concept shown at the
2008 SEMA Show, will be another appearance choice. See
the
THRC option page
for more details on each of these appearance items.
The car's
suspension will reflect the Camaro's road racing
heritage. Stock springs will be replaced by higher-rate,
aftermarket springs which will both firm-up the car's
handling and improve its appearance with a 3/4ths of an
inch drop in ride height. Either SLP or American Racing
aluminum wheels will replace the stock parts. The
combination of the lower ride height and aftermarket
wheels better fill the wheel wells giving the THRC that
hard-core racer look the stock Camaro lacks but which is
demanded by serious enthusiasts interested in
uncompromising road cars.
Available on
Tom Henry Racing Camaros are some specially-selected
modifications to the powertrain. Both the V6 and V8
versions will be equipped with a THR, low-restriction
X-pipe-equipped exhaust system; a low-restriction,
cold-air intake system, and custom ECM programming. In
addition, the V8 THRCs can be fitted with Tom Henry
Racing long-tube headers and THR low-restriction,
metal-matrix catalytic converters. Taken as a package,
these changes should increase an LS3's power from the
stock 422-hp to about 450-hp. Similar modifications will
be available on the L99/automatic cars, but with
slightly less power output. Some of the Tom Henry Racing
Camaro components, such as the headers and exhaust
systems for the V8s, are also available separately.

If a THR
Camaro customer selects the optional, Edelbrock E-Force
Supercharger with THRs custom tuning, horsepower from
the manual transmission LS3 goes to about 630 at the
flywheel and the automatic trans L99 goes to about 580.
The E-Force uses some of the same technology used by the
LS9 engine in the Corvette ZR1 and includes an charge
air cooler. Click for more information about the THR
Camaro Supercharger.

 |
|
The Edelbrock E-Force
Supercharger is a four-lobe, high-helix,
modified Roots blower which bumps an LS3
to a little more than 600-hp.

All Tom
Henry Racing Camaros carry a unique serial number plate
on the left door jamb. All cars get a "Tom Henry Racing"
windshield header and special THRC badges on the front
fenders. While some of the THR Camaro parts may be
available individually, only complete cars sold by Tom
Henry Racing will have the unique serial numbers,
windshield headers and badges.
The first
THR Camaro was delivered in late-June 2009 and, as of
mid-October, 2010, thirty-four '10 and four '11 Tom
Henry Racing Camaros have been sold with a lot more
planned for 2011.
